Discord Opens 63,000 Servers to Web Search; Its Sitemap Lists Only 32,437 Today
Discord will give all of its more than 63,000 Discoverable Servers a public web page on 16 November and push some public-channel messages into web search from mid-December. Our sitemap check finds 32,437 server pages listed today, a 318-URL message pilot already in Google, and every pilot outbound link nofollowed.

Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, .
Discord will give every one of its more than 63,000 Discoverable Servers a public Server Web Page on 16 November 2026, and from mid-December some messages posted in their public channels can appear in web search, the company announced on 27 October. Our check of Discord's own XML sitemaps shows how big that change is: the servers sitemap lists 32,437 Server Web Pages today, roughly half the number Discord says will have one in three weeks.
For SEO teams this is a new source of forum-style answers entering Google's index, from a platform Discord itself describes as holding knowledge the wider internet cannot reach. It lands three weeks after Google opened its UGC Fresh Data Program for forums and days after Google told platforms to noindex link-shared pages that are not meant for Search.
What Discord is changing
- 16 November 2026: every Discoverable Server gets a Server Web Page. Servers that never set one up get a default page built from their Server Profile. The only way to avoid a page is to switch back to a Community Server.
- Channel Summaries from 16 November: automated summaries of active public-channel conversations can appear on those pages. Admins can choose source channels, curate summaries or switch them off.
- Channel Messages from mid-December: answers members post in public channels can be found in web search, in the members' own wording and without usernames or avatars. Discord says the rollout is gradual and may take a few weeks to show up.
- Opt-outs: admins control participating channels in Server Settings, Web Presence. Members can switch off their own messages in User Settings, Data and Privacy, and one switch covers every Discoverable Server they belong to. Messages sent before mid-December are not included.
- Regional defaults: in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea the member setting is off by default, and users in the teen age group are excluded.
Discoverable Servers are Discord's most public tier: a server needs at least 1,000 members, must be at least eight weeks old and has to meet activity and safety requirements. Private servers, DMs and group DMs are not affected. Discord frames the move as "a step toward bringing back what made forums great". The change was also reported by 9to5Google.
Key findings from our check of Discord's sitemaps
Discord's robots.txt points crawlers to seven sitemaps. Two of them matter here: the servers sitemap, which lists Server Web Pages at discord.com/servers/, and an announcements sitemap that lists message-level pages at discord.com/announcements/. We downloaded both and counted every URL.
- 32,437 Server Web Pages are listed today. Against Discord's figure of more than 63,000 Discoverable Servers, that is about 51%. If every remaining server gets a default page, at least 30,000 new discord.com URLs arrive on 16 November, before a single member message is published.
- The message pilot is already indexed. The announcements sitemap lists 318 URLs. A Google
site:discord.com/announcementssearch returned ten individual message pages, dated from March to September 2026, each with its own title and snippet. - The pilot is wider than the announcement says. Discord named NBA 2K, Rust and Dead by Daylight. The sitemap also lists channels from Marvel Rivals and Battlefield, plus Discord's own Town Hall server.
- Every outbound link in pilot messages is nofollowed. All 50 external links we found in message content across the eight pilot channel pages carried
rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer". Social profile icons on the two Server Web Pages we checked did not. - The servers sitemap carries no lastmod dates. None of the 32,437 server URLs has a lastmod value, while all 318 announcement URLs do. Google's sitemap documentation says it uses lastmod when it is consistently accurate, so Google gets no date signal for server pages from this file.

The pilot pages are marked up as a CollectionPage containing SocialMediaPosting items. Google lists SocialMediaPosting alongside DiscussionForumPosting in its discussion forum structured data documentation, the markup it documents for forum and social media content. The Server Web Page we inspected for the r/Dota2 server used ProfilePage markup and a self-referencing canonical.
Which servers already have a page
Discord server IDs encode their creation time, so we decoded the ID at the end of each of the 32,437 server URLs to see how old the communities with existing pages are.

Servers created from 2020 onward account for 25,164 of the 32,437 pages (78%). Older communities, including some that moved off traditional message boards years ago, are the minority. Their history stays off the web either way: only messages sent after mid-December qualify.
Where Discord shows up in Google today
To set a baseline before the December rollout, we ran 13 Google searches (US, English, desktop) on recent topics from the pilot communities, such as patch notes, known issues, events and map guides. None of the queries included the word "Discord".
| Measure (13 queries, top 10 organic results) | Discord | |
|---|---|---|
| Queries where the site appeared | 1 | 13 |
| Total results | 1 | 24 |
| Queries where it held position 1 | 0 | 3 |
| Best position | 7 | 1 |
Source: SaaS Link Building SERP pull, 29 October 2026 (UTC). Queries listed in the Methodology.
The single Discord result was a pilot page: Battlefield's Cairo Bazaar developer map guide ranked seventh for "battlefield 6 cairo bazaar map guide", six places below the same guide on EA's own site. In three extra searches that did include "discord", invite links took most Discord positions; a Server Web Page appeared once, at position 2 for "nba 2k discord".
One crawl detail stands out. A site:discord.com/servers search returned three internal search result URLs (discord.com/servers?query=...) in its top ten, even though those pages declare discord.com/servers as their canonical. Google has indexed parameter variants of Discord's directory despite that hint.
What this means for SEO teams
- If your brand runs a Discoverable Server, audit it before 16 November. Decide which public channels hold durable answers (help, FAQs, announcements) and opt out channels full of chatter, off-topic threads or support tickets that should not rank under your brand name.
- Do not count on link equity. In the pilot, every link inside a message was nofollowed. Treat Server Web Pages as a discovery channel for your community, not a backlink source.
- Keep the canonical answer on your own site. Battlefield's map guide ranked below EA's original. Post the full guide or changelog on your domain and share a summary in Discord, rather than the reverse.
- If you compete for community queries, track discord.com from mid-December. A recurring
site:discord.com/announcementssearch and your rank tracker's competitor view will show whether message pages start taking positions from Reddit, forums and fan wikis. - Watch the regional split. With member messages off by default in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, expect far fewer member answers from those markets than from the US.
Methodology
On 29 October 2026 (UTC) we fetched discord.com/robots.txt and the sitemap indexes it lists for servers and announcements, then downloaded the current child sitemaps (files stamped 28 October 2026) and counted every loc and lastmod entry. Server creation years were decoded from the numeric server ID at the end of each /servers/ URL using Discord's ID format (milliseconds since 1 January 2015, stored in the ID's upper bits). We fetched the index page of each of the eight announcement channels to read titles, structured data types and link attributes, counting external links in message content and excluding Discord's own domains and sidebar social icons. Google results came from a SERP API on the same day for these queries: nba 2k27 patch notes; nba 2k27 known issues; nba 2k27 season 2 rewards; marvel rivals patch notes; marvel rivals night of illusions event; marvel rivals season 10 twitch drops; battlefield 6 patch notes; battlefield 6 known issues; battlefield 6 operation augur; battlefield 6 cairo bazaar map guide; battlefield 6 known issues and status roundup; dead by daylight patch notes; rust update patch notes. Index checks used site:discord.com/announcements and site:discord.com/servers; branded checks used dead by daylight discord server, rust discord server and nba 2k discord. Results reflect one location and one moment, and a sitemap may not list every page a site serves.
Conclusion
Discord is about to double its footprint of indexable server pages and, from December, publish member answers that have been invisible to search engines. The pilot shows Google will index these pages and that Discord nofollows outbound links. Today, Discord barely registers for community queries where Reddit appears in every top ten we checked, so the next two months will show whether message pages can compete with it. Questions and answers
When will Discord server content appear in web search?
Discord says every Discoverable Server gets a Server Web Page on 16 November 2026, with Channel Summaries able to start the same day. Messages from public channels can begin appearing on those pages and in web search from mid-December 2026, rolling out gradually over a few weeks.
Which Discord servers are affected?
Only Discoverable Servers, which Discord says need at least 1,000 members, must be at least eight weeks old and must meet activity and safety requirements. Discord puts their number at more than 63,000. Private servers, DMs and group DMs are not included.
How can admins and members opt out?
Admins choose participating channels, or turn them all off, in Server Settings, Web Presence. Members can stop their messages being shown in User Settings, Data and Privacy; one setting covers every Discoverable Server. A server can avoid having a Server Web Page only by switching back to a Community Server.
Do links in Discord messages pass PageRank?
In the pilot pages we checked on 29 October 2026, all 50 external links inside message content carried rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer", so they should not be treated as followed backlinks.
Is the default different outside the US?
Yes. Discord says the member setting for Channel Messages is off by default in the EU, UK, Canada, Brazil, Australia and South Korea, and users in the teen age group are excluded entirely.

Google Says Let Dead Pages 404, but 15% of 546 Top Sites Don't Return One
Google's Gary Illyes and Cherry Sireetorn Prommawin said on 28 October that 404 errors carry no penalty and do not drain crawl budget. Our crawl of 573 top sites found 15.2% of usable responses to an invented URL were not a 404 or 410, led by 200 pages and homepage redirects that Google treats as soft 404s.
