AI Mode Showed Home Service Booking Cards on 19 of 48 Searches; Plumbers Got None
Google AI Mode showed home services booking cards on 19 of 48 searches we ran across Austin, Denver, Atlanta and Phoenix the day after launch. Thumbtack supplied 17 of the 46 cards, ServiceTitan was already live despite a coming-soon label, Jobber supplied none and plumber searches returned no cards at all.

Google's new home services booking links in AI Mode appeared on 19 of 48 home service searches we ran across four US cities on 5 November 2026, the day after Robby Stein, Vice President of Product for Google Search, announced the feature on X. The 46 booking cards we found came from five booking platforms and one roofing company's own booking system. Thumbtack supplied the most, Jobber supplied none, and the plumbing searches that Stein used as his own example returned no cards in any city.
Stein wrote on 4 November that Google was adding "direct links in AI Mode" for home services through Angi, Thumbtack, Housecall Pro and Jobber, with ServiceTitan to follow, and that the feature was live in the US. Search Engine Roundtable reported the post the following morning. We wanted to know how often the links show up for a homeowner who simply asks AI Mode to book a tradesperson, and which platforms actually fill the slots.
Key findings
- 40% coverage on day one. 19 of the 48 AI Mode answers (39.6%) carried at least one booking card. The other 29 named local businesses but offered no booking card, pointing users to websites, map directions or phone numbers instead.
- Thumbtack led, Jobber was absent. Thumbtack was the source for 17 of the 46 cards, Angi and Housecall Pro for 12 each. No card in any answer pointed to Jobber.
- ServiceTitan is already live in some answers. Stein described it as coming soon, yet ServiceTitan supplied 3 cards in 3 answers (HVAC in Denver, garage doors and locksmiths in Phoenix).
- An unannounced platform showed up. Workiz, a booking platform Stein did not name, supplied a locksmith card in Austin.
- Plumbers and house cleaners got nothing. Neither service produced a single card in any of the four cities, while electrician, handyman, HVAC and locksmith searches each produced cards in three of four cities.
- Only one platform showed prices. Every Housecall Pro card listed an appointment length and 3 of its 12 cards listed a price (from 89 to 125 US dollars). No Thumbtack, Angi or ServiceTitan card showed either.
Which platforms filled the booking slots
Each card names a specific service ("Install/Repair Fixtures", "Locksmith - Auto") at a named business and labels the platform it comes from. Counting those labels gives a first read on how Google is splitting the new inventory between lead marketplaces and the software tools that tradespeople use to run their own bookings.
| Source platform | Cards | Share of 46 cards | Answers with its cards | Price or time shown | Named by Stein |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Thumbtack | 17 | 37.0% | 11 | No | Yes |
| Angi | 12 | 26.1% | 7 | No | Yes |
| Housecall Pro | 12 | 26.1% | 8 | Length on all 12, price on 3 | Yes |
| ServiceTitan | 3 | 6.5% | 3 | No | Yes, as coming soon |
| Workiz | 1 | 2.2% | 1 | No | No |
| Mighty Dog Roofing (own site) | 1 | 2.2% | 1 | Length only | No |
| Jobber | 0 | 0% | 0 | n/a | Yes |
Source: SaaS Link Building analysis of Google AI Mode result pages, 5 November 2026. Cards de-duplicated within each answer by service and business.
The two lead marketplaces, Thumbtack and Angi, together supplied 29 of the 46 cards, and Thumbtack appeared in more answers (11) than any other platform. Housecall Pro's cards were the most detailed: each carried a duration such as "2 hours", and three businesses listed fixed prices for a lawn mow in Austin, a fixture repair in Atlanta and an HVAC service call in Phoenix.
Launch claims against what we saw
The partners' own announcements do not fully match the live results. Housecall Pro's 4 November press release says all of its users will be eligible at no additional cost, with no lead fees or bidding, but also says the integration is "coming soon to eligible US customers". Its cards were nonetheless present in 8 of our 48 answers, so at least part of the rollout is already live.
Jobber announced the same day that eligible US businesses can be found and booked through AI Mode, according to Unite.AI's report on the announcement. Jobber's eligibility rules, as reported there, require a paid subscription, a complete company address, a Google Business Profile connected at that same address and a request or booking form assigned to Google. The report also says Google adds a Book Online button to the matched Business Profile. That may explain the gap in our data: Jobber bookings could surface on Business Profile buttons rather than as cards inside the AI Mode answer, which is all we measured.
We also found sponsored results carrying Angi or HomeAdvisor display addresses on 4 of the 48 pages. All four were searches where AI Mode showed no booking cards (pest control in Austin and Atlanta, house cleaning and HVAC in Atlanta), so in our sample the paid and organic booking placements did not overlap.
Context: Google keeps routing local intent through partners
This is the third commercial vertical where we have measured who gets the links inside AI Mode. In travel, AI Mode sent 35 of 49 flight links to Google's own pages. In shopping, all 180 product cards in our 50-query test linked to Google pages. Home services take a different path: the cards hand the booking to third-party platforms rather than to Google, but the business still has to be on one of those platforms to get a card. In our sample, businesses without a card appeared as plain listings with website, phone or directions links.
Local queries have also been the weakest category for Google's AI features in our earlier testing. When we checked a broad query mix last month, AI Overviews showed on only 2 of 15 local searches. AI Mode, by contrast, returned an answer for all 48 of our booking prompts, and the 29 without cards still named local businesses.
What this means for SEO teams
- Audit platform presence, not just rankings. For home service clients, check which booking or field service platform each location uses. In our sample, cards only came from Thumbtack, Angi, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, Workiz and one roofing company's own booking system.
- Fill in service names and durations. Cards display the service name the platform holds, and Housecall Pro cards add appointment length and price. Clear, specific service names ("Heating Repair", "Car Key Duplicate") are what AI Mode showed users.
- Match the Business Profile to the platform account. Jobber's reported rules hinge on the same address in both places. Treat address consistency between the profile and any booking tool as a requirement, not a tidy-up task.
- Track AI Mode separately for plumbing and cleaning. Those categories returned no cards on day one. Recheck them weekly before telling clients the feature does or does not apply to them.
- Expect attribution gaps. Card clicks route through Google redirect links to the platform, so bookings may land in the platform's inbox rather than in your site analytics. Ask clients to tag platform bookings by source where the tool allows it.
Methodology
On 5 November 2026, between 17:18 and 17:22 UTC, we ran 48 Google AI Mode searches through a SERP API: 12 home service types (plumber, electrician, HVAC repair technician, house cleaner, handyman, roofer, pest control service, lawn care service, garage door repair, appliance repair technician, house painter and locksmith) in four US cities (Austin, Denver, Atlanta and Phoenix). Each prompt followed the same pattern, "I need to book a [service] in [city] this week", with the search location set to that city, US English, desktop, and the API cache disabled.
We downloaded the raw result page for each search and extracted every booking card, identified by its service label, business name and source platform domain. Cards were de-duplicated within each answer by service and business, giving 46 cards across 45 business listings. Sponsored results were counted only where the page carried an ad click link with an Angi or HomeAdvisor display address. All 48 searches returned an AI Mode answer.
Limitations: this is a single, logged-out snapshot from one location per city. AI Mode answers vary between runs and users, signed-in users may see different modules, and we did not click through to complete any booking. Business Profile booking buttons outside the AI Mode answer were not measured.
Conclusion
A day after launch, Google's home services booking cards were visible on about two in five of our AI Mode booking prompts, and the inventory leaned toward the lead marketplaces over the business software platforms. The absence of cards for plumbers, Stein's own example, and the early presence of ServiceTitan and Workiz suggest the rollout is still uneven. For local SEO, the practical takeaway is that a booking card depends on which platform a business uses, not only on how its Business Profile ranks.
Questions and answers
What did Google add to AI Mode for home services?
